Cha Tao, The Way of Tea, is a very deep and profound knowledge of tea that leads to philosophies and beliefs, Zen-ness and tranquility, and health in body and mind. This spring, I was invited to a cultural event organized by Nexus Health Center in Old Montreal to give a Chinese tea ceremony workshop. It is always a pleasure to discuss about tea and to share the Chinese tea drinking culture.

Before the tea ceremony workshop, I participated at a meditation seminar given by the great meditation teacher Annick Robinson. Annick is a popular fitness instructor, trainer, workshop presenter, columnist and leader in the fitness industry, and is renowned for a unique teaching style that appeals to the most hard core of fitness enthusiasts. She is also the only Budokon Sensei in Canada. She is now teaching at Victoria Park – A unique health and wellness center located at Westmount.

With eyes closed, Annick led us to a place I call the “emptiness”. A place with no action nor reaction, no peace nor suffer, no give nor take, no love nor tears, no mercy nor compassion, but only you and your inner-self. The 30 minutes of meditative silence gave me a chance to re-assemble and to recharge myself to strongly face every challenge in life. It was simply “purity”.
After the meditation seminar, I started the tea workshop. With the calmed and cleared mind, I perfectly brewed a green tea, a wulong tea, and a puerh black tea. Together with the event organizer, Travis, and all participants, we shared our tea experience and also had a discussion on What is Zen.

What a great night we have had. I not only had a great experience on meditation, but also had a better and even deeper understanding of how Cha is related to Tao. I am pleased to share this experience with you at our tea workshops.
